I’m stooped in code right now refactoring the entire code-base for http://snipt.org in preparation for some huge new features, but I came across this and had to share. A ~45min Q/A with Conan O’Brien on Google campus. Needles to say- it is very funny. Probably some of Conan’s best internet related comedy yet.
This service has been around for a while but I’m still surprised by the amount of people who don’t know about it. Google, in their infinite understanding of the “power of information” offers a free 411 service. Pretty sweet right? On the downside they record all the calls and you can bet they are aggregating that data to use toward some marketing ends but on the upside… its free 411!
The system is completely automated and pretty accurate and easy to use to boot. Combine that with the $0.75 savings per call as compared to standard 411 service and I think the next thing you’ll be doing is speed dial>save.
Inspiration for this post: I was ordering a pizza just now and forgot the number to the pizza place, rather then boot up the computer to find the number i GOOG411′d it. I had to open up the laptop to blog about it though so maybe I didn’t save so much time after all.
