As technology get’s smaller, I lose more
Today’s hi-tech devices are getting smaller and smaller. Remember when your dad whipped out the “video recorder” when you were little? It had a big fluffy windscreen on the microphone and it was powered by a hulking VHS tape and pappa had to wield it on his shoulder like an RPG to capture those kodak moments? Those days are long gone. Today’s technology fits in the palm of your hand, or should i say, it fits under the door of your room, or under the tip of your nail.
Technology is on a shrink-ray craze. Ipods went from being a veritable brick to being thin as paper and light as driftwood. And now, their notebooks have gone that route as well. But is all this downscaling a good thing? I always thought it was, I’m a tech guy! I love smaller, faster, cooler gadgets!
But now I find myself searching for my mini-sd card for my digital camera. I wanted to take some pics to make my next post more interesting, but alas, the half-inch square piece of memory that serves as the foundation for my digital photography is nowhere to be found. I can’t remember where I put it- but even if I could I don’t know that it would matter, its so small im not sure I’ll ever find it again.
2gigs of solid-state memory lost, forever? I’ll inevitability end up buying another card, they are cheap relatively speaking. But it just made me think about where all this smaller-is-better thinking is going. Hell I can only imagine what would happen if i lost my MICRO-sd card that powers my cellphone… all would be lost, that thing is less than .25″ square.
